WIRED Business Conference
An Intersection of Technology, Design & Enterprise
New
York, NY - May 12, 2015
"One of the Top 15 Conferences for meeting influencers and Innovators."
- Forbes
On Tuesday, a capacity crowd gathered at The Museum of Jewish Heritage to listen in as disruptive business leaders from various industries discussed how they are confronting an ever-changing landscape. Wired’s BizCon was a daylong event that tied together a common theme–how technology and design intersect with business.
The day’s speakers were a mixed bag, including brand leaders like Tumblr’s founder David Karp, Twitter Amplify’s founder Glenn Brown, UNRULY CEO Sarah Wood and several others. Few stones were left unturned, meaning that everything from social media to gaming, robotics and even experiential theater was covered. Catherine Mohr, senior director of medical research at Intuitive Surgical put it best when she stressed the importance of "looking into adjacent fields to find solutions in your own."

TEDMED
The 20 Great Challenges of Healthcare
Washington, DC - May 2013
The Great Challenges of Health and Medicine are complex, persistent problems impacting millions of lives, and affecting the well-being of all of America – beginning with patients, and extending to families and citizens everywhere. These knotty problems do not have “one-size-fits-all” solutions because they stem from broad, interlocking social, economic and psychological sources as well as from medical or scientific triggers.
The mission of TEDMED’s Great Challenges Program is not to solve these complex problems but rather to curate unbiased and broadly inclusive dialogs around these challenges, incorporating thoughtful, multi-disciplinary perspectives. TEDMED believes that when the world achieves a broad-based understanding of any given challenge, it will then be in position to take truly effective action.
The Great Challenges Program encourages everyone’s input. We all have a stake in these dialogs and we want to hear from you!
BIG DRAW CHICAGO
Discovery Doodles Book Launch
Chicago, IL - October, 2013
Big Draw Chicago is a month long city wide arts festival focusing on drawing and informal art making. Big Draw events took place in neighborhoods all throughout the city for the entire month of October. One of the events was held at Catalyst Ranch, a co-sponsor of Big Draw Chicago. We hosted Diane Durand’s event “Discovery Doodles: How You Can Draw From Infancy To Industry.”
Diane Durand is the founder of Discovery Doodles and author of a book of the same name. She is a world renowned Graphic Facilitator and thought leader who has made it her life’s passion to use what she has learned about creativity, doodling and coloring to unlock the creativity inside all people, so “we may become the Creators of Change we want to see in the world.”
As part of Discovery Doodles Diane proved that anyone can draw. We learned the basics of doodling from which there is no limit to potential creative output. In four hands-on stations we tried some drawing techniques, investigated technology and did some quick tablet demos of how to transform where you brainstorm. In addition, participants learned how to apply the drawing skills they gained to everyday experiences.
International Forum of Visual Practioners
Visual at our core, Visionary to our core
New York, NY - July 2013
WHAT IS THE IFVP?
"So", you may be asking, "just what is a visual practitioner anyways?" In a funny way, we as a group have been asking this question for many years, and continue to do so. In a nutshell, we are an emerging grassroots network of diverse practitioners who use visual methods to assist learning and communication between groups and individuals.
We are an informal community of like-minded individuals - bound together by our strong beliefs in the power of "visual thinking" … knowing innately that a picture is truly worth a 1000 words, we come together to share our experiences, trade resources, support and encourage each other, and, year by year, raise the profile of our unique and growing profession.
We are a new association, just having formed in 2003, although the roots of our profession extend formally back to the 1970s (and much further back if you consider the history of visuals over the eons!).
